Keyboard shortcuts

Patterm keeps its own shortcuts to a few chords so that everyday terminal keys still reach your agents.

The tables use Ctrl, which is what Patterm shows on Linux. The command palette, sidebar, board and copy shortcuts also accept Cmd where a Cmd key exists. The font-size and navigation-mode shortcuts need Ctrl.

Anywhere in the workspace##

Shortcut What it does
Ctrl+K Opens or closes Search or jump to, the command palette. See below.
Ctrl+Space Turns navigation mode on or off. See below.
Ctrl+Shift+B Shows or hides the sidebar, in sidebar mode.
Ctrl+Shift+Space Opens the project board, or goes back from it, in sidebar mode.

Patterm catches these before a focused terminal sees them, so the terminal does not also receive them. The one exception is Ctrl+K: with the palette open and the search box empty, pressing Ctrl+K again closes the palette and sends Ctrl+K to the terminal.

Press Ctrl+Space to switch between tabs and agents without reaching for the mouse. A Navigate hint appears at the bottom of the workspace. It works with focus in a terminal or an Integrated composer, but not in other text fields.

Key What it does
A Previous tab
D Next tab
W Previous agent in the family, such as the parent of a subagent
S Next agent in the family, such as the first subagent
1 to 9 Jump to that tab, counting from the left, with pinned tabs first
Esc, Enter or Ctrl+Space Leave navigation mode

Any other key leaves navigation mode and goes to the focused terminal or input. Clicking anywhere or switching windows also leaves it. The keys use their physical positions, so W, A, S and D stay in place on other keyboard layouts.
